“Mustang Island Cattle Drive” by Flint Reed

This magnificent 18″ x 30″ painting by Port Aransan Flint Reed depicts a cattle drive on Mustang Island reminiscent of the ones the Mercer family describes in The Mercer Logs: Pioneer Times on Mustang Island, an exciting new book about Mustang Isl. Flint used a photo from the October 1966 cover of Cattleman’s magazine of cattle crossing Packery Channel for his “model”. The pictures below illustrate the progress of the painting from photograph to sketches to fleshing out and the final result–a beautiful recording of Port Aransas history. The painting is on view at Mustang Island Art Gallery (www.mustangislandartgallery.com), Hwy. 361 Port A, until the auction.
Texan Flint Reed currently resides in Port Aransas, Texas with his wife Jill. After six years as a Navy Carrier Pilot in the 1950′s Flint moved to Europe where he studied with various artists and attended the School of Fine Arts in Madrid Spain. After eleven years in Europe and the West Indies he returned to the United States. He has exhibited and sold in Spain, Greece, Grenada, and West Indies as well as the United States and Canada.
